In Memory
of Missy

    June 13, 2006
Poor, frightened Missy. Missy and her canine friend came to the
shelter when their elderly owners were hospitalized and unable to
return to their home. The family took in Missy's young, little purebred
lapdog buddy and surrendered Missy to the shelter. She found herself
alone, uprooted from her home and wondering what happened to her
caregivers and her dog friend.

We had no history on Missy, other than the fact that she was about 6
years old . The family members didn't even know her name so at first
we named her Annie until they found out her name and told us.

She was so frightened and bewildered at the shelter. Getting a couple
of photos was tough. It took a bit of time for her to warm up to new
people. She had good housemanners, a low energy level and was
quiet. Missy was accustomed to living in a quiet household with
seniors with no visitors. Quick movements frightened her.

We kept Missy safe and warm and clean and fed, but we couldn't give
her what she really needed - a loving forever home. We hoped
someone had room in their heart for Missy.

An angel named Mary adopted Missy. Sadly Missy's fears were deeply
ingrained from years of under socialization and isolation. Her fear
showed itself in her new home as full blown fear aggression toward
all, but Mary. She tried to attack anyone else who entered the home
and shook for hours after the doorbell rang. Missy was a serious fear
biter and a danger. Plus she was under stress all the time and living a
life filled with fear.

After much soul searching by all, Missy left this world today looking
into the eyes of the one person she now trusted - Mary. Mary kept
telling Missy what a good dog she was. Missy left this world feeling
safe and loved. No more living in fear for Missy. She is at peace now.

Mary is truly an angel for the love and care she gave this frightened
dog and for being able to let her go. Bless you Mary.
