Children in Class - Policies

  • Children must be least 12 years old to handle a dog/puppy in class.

  • Children must have my permission to handle a dog in class.  It doesn't matter if
you think your child should/can/is capable of handling a dog in class.  The
    ultimate decision is mine.

  • If I deem necessary for any reason, I will ask the adults to take over and have the
    child sit on the sidelines.

My classes are for adults and are taught at a level that is challenging for adults -
and usually move too quickly for children.

To ensure you, your dog, and your class mates get the most out of the class, it is
highly recommended that you leave children under the age of 12 at home.  If you
bring children under the age of 12, your  children must be capable of sitting
quietly in a chair on the sidelines and out of the training ring for the entire class.

Children must stay off the dog obstacles such as the see saw, jumps, and boards.
This policy is for several reasons including:

Liability issues.
Safety of the children – not all dogs are used to children and/or like them and
not all dogs are under the complete control of their owners.
Courtesy of others.  Owners, dogs, and I find it distracting to have children
being disruptive.

If your child does not follow the rules, you need to take charge of your child.  If your
child persists in not following the rules and being disruptive, I will ask you to leave.
No make up sessions or refunds are given if you must leave because of your child.

I highly recommend that parents buy and read the book “Living with Kids and
    Dogs" by Colleen Pelar.
