    What Happens to Untrained Dogs?

Sadly, it is estimated that 40% of all dogs are given up within one year of being
brought home most often due to behavioral problems and lack of training.
The dogs shown below needed training, but instead their owners left them at shelters.
(Note with the help of volunteers, the dogs shown below learned some manners and were adopted.)
The Fate of Untrained Dogs

If I sound harsh, it is because I have seen too many dogs suffer physically and emotionally
because no one bothered to train them or socialize them.
Such dogs are dead dogs walking.

Dogs like Elvis, Missy, Pippin, (below) Mocha, and Buddy died because they never were taught
how to live in our world.

Humans are the ones who failed these dogs.  The failure was not always intentional on the
people's part.  To these dogs, it didn't matter if he/she was failed intentionally, through, ignorance,
or indifference.  These dogs died and their short lives were unhappy ones.
Pippin was a fear aggressive dog turned
into a shelter by his owner who beat him.
Pippin was not a safe dog to adopt out.  He
was killed at the age of 2 yrs.
Missy was an unsocialized dog whose
elderly owner was removed from the
home and unable to care for her.  The
woman's family did not want Missy and
She was adopted by a wonderful woman.
Sadly, Missy was a fear aggressive dog
who was a real bite threat to all who
came into the home.  Missy was in a
constant state of stress.  She would
shake for hours after the doorbell rang.

She died in the arms of a woman who
had only known her a short time.
Elvis was a dog rescued from a locked
shed in the dead of winter.  He was all skin
and bones.  His life was the shed and a
bowl of frozen rice.  Sadly his adoptions did
not work out and he was put down about a
year after he was rescued.
